The Department of Transport announced new regulations which came into force on 22 September 2006 that ease the current restrictions on hand luggage.
Details as follows:

Each passenger is still permitted to carry only ONE item of baggage through the airport security search point. This item must not exceed 56cm x 45cm x 25cm including wheels, handles & side pockets etc (previously 45cm x 35cm x 16 cm). A handbag will be classed as one item. There are no exceptions.

No liquids of any types are permitted other than the following items:

* Essential medicines in liquid form sufficient for the flight (max 50ml) [eg diabetic kit].
* Baby milk & liquid baby food sufficient & essential for the flight, [contents of each bottle or jar must be tasted by the accompanying passenger].

The definition of liquids should include gels, pastes, lotions, liquid/solid mixtures (excluding lipstick) and the contents of pressurised containers, eg toothpaste hair gel, drinks, soups, syrups, perfume, deodorant, shaving foam aerosols and lighters.

Cigarette lighters are not permitted in either your hand luggage or suitcase, cigarette lighters carried on the person must be surrendered prior to going through Security. Cigarette lighters are available for purchase once you have passed through Security.

Please Note:

* All laptops & large electrical items, eg hairdryers, must be removed from hand-baggage before x-ray screening.
* Shoes should be removed for x-ray screening only when directed by a Security Officer
* Pushchairs, walking aids & wheelchairs are permitted.
* Large musical instruments are allowed as a second item of hand luggage but they will have to be screened separately.
If passengers have any questions on their travel arrangements or security in place at airports they should contact the airport or their airline.
